Tina's Story

Based in Canton, Georgia, we ship our baking pan to churches and individuals worldwide. The unique design of The Gifted Pan makes it easy to bake prosforon, Orthodox communion bread.

Tina Vamvakias has been making Prosforon for about 25 years and, if you are a Prosforon baker, you may be able to relate to what brought about this design.

She had tried many recipes for Prosforon in the hopes that she could find a recipe that would make a readable seal every time. Unfortunately, that did not happen. Each time it was her turn to bake the Prosforon, instead of having a humble, prayerful heart, she would be filled with anxiety. She feared getting a seal good enough for her priest to say communion prayers would take making the bread again and again to get it right.

As she continued to try, she kept thinking that there must be another way to insure a good seal impression every time.

As an amateur potter she had the idea that perhaps a pottery bowl with a seal in the base might work. While the idea was good, the properties of clay made the Prosforon dense with a poor texture.

She began searching for a company that would create a prototype nonstick baking pan to her specifications and quickly found that was going to be quite a challenge. Many doors closed but, with God’s guidance, others opened. She finally found her pan maker and The Gifted Pan became a reality. The results were wonderful and she happily discovered the final pan made a great, readable Prosforon seal every time.
Tina is now able to bake a Prosforon with a great readable seal every time and she is delighted to share her invention with other bakers around the world.

We would like to thank Fr. Panayiotis Papageorgiou, Ph.D, and Fr. George Pallas of Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church, Marietta, GA, who encouraged this project from the beginning. A special thank you, also, to Fr. Barnabas Powell of Sts. Raphael, Nicholas and Irene Greek Orthodox Church, Cumming, GA, and the host of Faith Encouraged LIVE on Ancient Faith Radio (www.faithencouraged.org) who continues to be an influence in her life and this product.
